CHABAC aims to to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic among the African, Caribbean and Black population in Canada and HIV-related stigma by raising awareness and offering resources

Our Mission is to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic

Start a Conversation

Being informed and talking openly about HIV can help to increase awareness and understanding of HIV and AIDS, and reduce HIV-related stigma as well as HIV transmission.

Know Your Health Options

Learn about using male and female condoms, safer drug use practices, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis), which can all go a long way to help prevent HIV transmission.

End the Stigma

Discrimination based on gender, race and sexual orientation are significant barriers to prevention in black communities negatively impacts HIV testing rates and treatment, but talking openly reduces stigma.

Our Projects

Sexual & Reproductive Health Project

The project “Promoting Black Sexual and Reproductive Health” is aimed at increasing the capacity of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) programs and services across Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario to serve African, Caribbean and Black (ACB) communities, particularly women, 2SLGBTQI+ people, newcomers, and Black youth through healthcare provider (HCP) and community capacity building.

HIV Prevention Strategy Project

The aim of this five-year Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) funded project is to educate both African, Caribbean, and Black community members and service providers about HIV prevention strategies and technologies, especially by carrying out varying workshops specifically aimed at either ACB community members or service providers. The project also involves distributing HIV self-test kits and other HIV prevention technologies at events.

Anti-Black Racism Project

By year 5 of the project in 2027, educational activities will have been delivered to 20 service providers in 4 regions of Canada to improve HIV service delivery to African, Caribbean and Black (ACB) populations, with 80% of 20 service providers participants reporting a strengthened capacity to provide culturally responsive and culturally safe STBBI prevention, testing, treatment and care services to ACB populations.

NBHAAD 2022 Campaign

CHABAC endorses the CDC’s National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD) 2022 Campaign focusing on PROGRESS AND RESILIENCE. NBHAAD has a series of posters and videos related to the campaign about reducing HIV vulnerabilities despite challenging structural barriers including anti-Black racism, disproportionate impacts of COVID-19, and other social and economic inequities.
